A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.”

Golden Threads

My sisters are some of the most important people in my life, and this project is about capturing intimate moments with them, highlighting their beauty and youth. The inspiration came from one of the first photos I took of my youngest sister on our couch. The tones of the image really stood out to me, especially the richness of her skin, which I wanted to replicate throughout the series. But more than that, her expression struck me the most. She often makes a serious, almost melancholic face regardless of how she’s feeling, which isn’t something you typically see in photographs of children. I wanted to capture that, to preserve both their childlike innocence and a sense of deeper, more mature emotion.

This project also became an introspective process for me. Not only do my sisters resemble me closely, but they also understand me in a way no one else does. They felt comfortable in front of the camera, allowing for natural, unforced moments even when I gave direction. Many of my compositions blend my ideas with their spontaneous gestures and movements. At times, they would do something instinctively, and I’d ask them to recreate it, merging spontaneity with intention. When I shared my vision with them, they instinctively knew what I was looking for while still infusing their own personalities into the images. Often, when I asked them to simply sit in a frame, they positioned themselves with such intention, as if they understood the composition without me needing to adjust them.

Photographing family is often about capturing love and affection, but I wanted to go deeper, focusing on the quieter, more intimate aspects of sisterhood. The images evoke a sense of nostalgia, almost like looking back at my own childhood through them. As the project evolved, I began including other family members while still keeping my sisters at the center, exploring how expressions of maturity and innocence coexist across different generations.

My sisters truly are the golden threads to the meaning of my life.
